Hidayat Inayat Khan is the youngest son of Hazrat
Inayat Khan (1882 - 1927), founder of the International Sufi Movement.
Born in England and raised in France, he is a distinguished composer
of symphonic music. In his music he has blended the ancient Indian
raga style, which he learned from his father’s and his uncles’ who
were reknowned musicians, and Western polyphonic harmonies, which
he studied in Paris under the famous composition instructor, Nadia
Boulanger. His work includes the Message Symphony, La Monotonia,
the Zikar Symphony, and the Gandhi Symphony. Pir-o-Murshid Hidayat
has taken on the leadership of the International Sufi Movement for
the last twenty years, devoting tremendous energy to continuing
the spiritual work of his father. He has traveled throughout the
world to bring together Sufis of the Inayat Khan lineage, and has
been instrumental in the formulation of the Federation of the Sufi
Message. Now in his nineties, he continues to work for the Message,
and to inspire those who embrace the idea of Spiritual Liberty as
manifested in the Unity of Religious Ideals. |
